Help us grow and continue to build the best damn development teams in the southeast.
As a Software Infrastructure Engineer II at Krumware, you’ll build and operate the infrastructure our customers’ software runs on, across cloud, virtualized, and bare-metal environments. Most of our customers have an existing physical network and an existing virtualized estate, often VMware vSphere, and a mandate to modernize without breaking either. You will collaborate with the application development and platform teams, and with client teams, to keep those environments reliable, secure, and well documented.
What You’ll Do
- Design network layouts for virtualized, cloud, and hybrid environments, including segmentation, addressing, redundancy, and secure connections between sites.
- Configure and troubleshoot switches, routers, firewalls, and VPNs, and own the networking side of VMware vSphere from the virtual switches down to the physical uplinks.
- Extend the same rigor into Kubernetes and cloud networking, including air-gapped and low-bandwidth sites, and support migrations between platforms and data centers.
- Build repeatable deployments through infrastructure as code and DevOps automation, estimate infrastructure costs, and enforce resource budgets.
- Diagnose problems at a detailed level, write up the root cause so it does not recur, and participate in creation of team-level platform standards.
- Run technical discovery with clients, work within their change control processes, and mentor Platform I engineers.
What You’ll Need
- Bachelor’s degree in an IT-related field OR equivalent experience
- 4-6 years of experience operating production networks or infrastructure
- Hands-on configuration of switches, routers, and firewalls (Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, Fortinet, or similar), including site-to-site VPNs and dynamic routing (BGP or OSPF)
- Production experience with VMware vSphere or a comparable platform, including designing its virtual networking rather than only operating it
- Cloud network design in AWS, Azure, or GCP, including hybrid connectivity back to on-prem
- Working knowledge of Kubernetes networking: CNIs, Services, Ingress, and network policies
- Comfort administering Linux systems, with enough scripting (Bash, Python, or Go) and infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible, or similar) to build useful tooling
- Experience working directly with clients or stakeholder teams
- Experience with SUSE products (Rancher, RKE2, Harvester), VMware migrations, or industrial and regulated environments is a plus
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication and writing skills.
